Background

The Farm and Ranch Safety and Health Association, FARSHA, develops and provisions health and safety services to BC agriculture. They service BC agriculture through numerous ventures including health and safety programs, training, site evaluations, consultations and promotion of activities.

The Problem

The idea behind this project was to assist farmers with determining the first aid requirements for each workplace. Prior to this app, it was very cumbersome to determine exactly what the first aid requirements were. FARSHA wanted to create an assessment that was very easy to use, complied with BC Occupational Health and Safety Regulation and outlined what supplies, equipment, facilities, certificates, and transportation was needed for each workplace.

Working with Bound State Software was a real pleasure. They where able to take a few a ideas scribbled on a notepad and turn them into creative yet logical solutions.

The Solution

The solution was to design a step by step wizard that assisted farmers in discovering their requirements. The app guides the user through a series of questions which, based on the responses, results in a screen describing the steps and requirements needed. Once a first aid assessment is conducted, a PDF version can be downloaded for record keeping.

The Results

FARSHA has received very positive feedback regarding this tool and will be pursuing the development of similar tools in the near future. The app is now offered for free through their website.
